Oliver, B.C.’s TIME Estate Winery is proud to announce the release of The Girls Vivacious Rosé and The Girls Voluptuous Red, which give 100 per cent of the profits to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region.

For the month of October, more than 40 BCLDB stores and most private wine shops across the province will feature The Girls Rosé, from Tofino to Nelson and all points in-between. If you are looking to try or buy the wine, ask for it by name. For a full list of retail locations, see charitablewines.org.

The wines will also be showcased at a breast cancer fundraiser at the Village VQA Wine Store (3536 W 41st Ave & Dunbar) on Friday, October 24 from 8-10 p.m.

The Inspiration:

Often, when faced with the disease of a loved one, we feel completely helpless – like there’s nothing we can do to really support. An email, a phone call, or even a visit doesn’t seem like enough. So the team that developed The Girls had this idea: they should create a wine that gives 100 per cent of the profits to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region. Maybe if they made a really delicious wine and garnered the community’s support, then together, they could actually make a difference. They would raise money to help researchers and doctors find a cure. With October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month fast approaching, the timing couldn’t be better.

With a team of talented winemakers, and the consultation of James Cluer MW, the group produced two new wines from premium vineyards in the South Okanagan, one of the most beautiful winegrowing regions in the world. The wines are produced and distributed by TIME Estate Winery in Oliver, B.C. Bill Lui is the driving force behind the wine. Lui built a successful business which allowed him to pursue his passion for wine. He is a WSET graduate, has attended winemaking courses at UC Davis, and has spent time in Bordeaux learning about the art of producing fine wine. His dream is to create a First Growth in his homeland of British Columbia and is proud of The Girls wines.

The 2013 Vivacious Rosé ($19.99) is a unique blend, primarily a saignée of Merlot. The colour is a soft pink with an intensely fragrant, floral nose of raspberry and wild strawberry. The palate is dry, medium to light bodied, with a thread of acidity giving a beautifully refreshing quality to the wine, and helping to create a lingering finish.

The 2012 Voluptuous Red ($24.99) is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in all new French oak barrels from top coopers including François Frères, Taransaud and Seguin Moreau. The wine offers a beautiful medium to deep ruby red colour, the nose shows youthful fresh notes of raspberry, red cherry, cloves and anise. The palate is dry, medium to full bodied, with bright acidity and a soft smooth tannin texture.

The Girls’ team is thrilled to have the support and collaboration of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region. Every bottle provides another donation to the foundation. Delicious and food-friendly, the wines are well-priced for gift giving and everyday entertaining.
